Diamond Graphite Colours
« on: August 16, 2005, 07:08:53 AM »
Diamond is transparent due to the oderly structure of atoms.

But why is graphite black?
My theory is that it is due to delocalised electrons absorbing energy. But i didn't get any further. Can anyone confirm or reject this.

Is there a general explanation for all compounds colours

please browse our article section.

i believe someone had written an article pertaining to colour.

http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?op=articleSum;sectionid=9
"Say you're in a [chemical] plant and there's a snake on the floor. What are you going to do? Call a consultant? Get a meeting together to talk about which color is the snake? Employees should do one thing: walk over there and you step on the friggin snake." - Jean-Pierre Garnier, CEO of Glaxosmithkline, June 2006
