Hey guys, this is a pretty easy density question.. I am just getting ready for some 1st year Chemistry though, and I am not sure if I have it right so I thought I would ask.

The question: Approximately what fraction of its volume is submerged when a  1.00kg block of wood ( d= 0.68g/cm^3) floats on water.

Answer: The volume of the wood is 1470.588 cm^3 or 1.470588 dm^3. It displaced 1 kg or 1.01194L of water.

This means that approximately 2/3 of the volume of wood is submerged?

When reporting calculated numbers don't put every single digit in the answer - most of them have no sense. Do you know what significant figures are? Don't treat them too seriously, but try to follow more or less the idea.

Thanks, and yah, I wasn't sure how many digits to include, I just wrote what I wrote down when I was solving the question.
