[School] Writing formulas - Reactions

Greetings good people! I recently signed up and I'm sorry I couldn't make a presentation of myself. Well I'm from Sweden and I'm not allowed to say "My teacher sucks" but to be honest I'm not performing well at his lessons.

Since my book is written in Swedish I'll try to translate as good as I can.

3. Type a name and formula of something that contains:
As much

a) Coal atoms as as Oxygen atoms. I guess this is CO2. (Climaxed)

b) 2x more Oxygen atoms as Coal atoms. I think this is (Columnist)

c) 2x H + 1 O = H20 (At least I can guarantee this)




4. Give some examples of:

A) Fast chemical reactions (For example candle burning?)

B) Slow chemical reactions (Believe me I have no idea)


5. The air we breath out contains inf CO2 and Water.


A) Which elements in food have given rise to these substances?

B) How can the burning of these substances take place already at room temperature.

I'm already confused...



(PINK questions)

Write reaction equations with chemical characters

A) The combustion of zinc

B) Copper reacts with sulfur

C) Sulfur burns

D) Nitrogen reacts with oxygen to form nitric oxide

E) Nitrogen reacts with oxygen to form nitric(MON)oxide


What I could need a better explanation of is how to write formulas and why they are written as they are. For example H2O, All I know about that is that it looks like this H-O-H and that's why its 2x H 1x O.  As I understood it H2 means there is 2 x H and the single O means there is only 1 of that.

I hope the translation is good enough for you to understand , thanks for reading the topic and I really hope I will get some useful help here.

Not coal (that's what you mine) but carbon (the element). You are told there is the same number of atoms of both in a molecule, so CO2 is out of the question, as it contains two times more oxygen.

No idea what is (Columnist), just like I hae no idea what you meant by (Climaxed) earlier.

Iron fence that I put here 10 years ago is still standing, but it won't survive much longer.

H-O-H is a structural formula - it tries to show how the atoms are organized in space (in a simplified way). H2O is just a composition of the molecule. The more complicated the molecule, the easier it is to write formula that reflects its composition, but not the arrangement of atoms.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I wrote something else.. I used that spell-checkup system and that's probably why. Blame goes to the forum not me.. =)
