The Mass Of An Atom

Which of the following explains why the mass of an atom is less than the sum of the masses of its constituent subatomic particles?

a. entropy
b. conservation of matter
c. the mass defect
d. conservation of momentum]


Would SERIOUSLY appreciate some help. I'm 8/9 on my 10 part chemistry quiz and this question is the difference between and A and a B.

Have you tried searching for each of these terms on, for example wikipedia?

You're right: part of the mass of the subatomic particles is converted into energy and used to bond them (nuclear interactions).
