Synthesizing 2-Bromopropene?
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:12:28 AM »
Hey guys I have been searching for a while and I cannot find a practical method of syntheses for 2-brmopropene, CAS # 557-93-7. Any help would be appreciated whether it be a refrence or a suggestion for sytheses. Thanks!!

You can buy it from Aldrich.

You can make it from methacrylic acid treated with bromine and carbon disulfide followed by acidic pyridine.

Ok thanks, the reason I ask is for my lab I had to find a synthetic scheme and it is giving me a ton of trouble. So your saying methacrylic acid +Br/CS2 and then acidic pyrdine wuld yield 2-bromopropene?

Elemental bromine. Look up the article I posted the citation for.
