Which reaction is most favorable?
« on: September 23, 2010, 08:33:19 AM »
I have a mixture of Ca3(PO4)2 and Ca(NO3)2

I add H2SO4 to the mixture.

Which of the following reactions is most favorable?

Ca(NO3)2 + H2SO4 -> 2 HNO3 + CaSO4

Ca3(PO4)2 + 2 H2SO4 ->  Ca(H2PO4)2 + 2 CaSO4

You may want to check your first reaction, I don't know if you'll make nitric acid.

It would also be easier to help you if we know what your guess is and why.
