BiI3 melting in KI
« on: October 02, 2010, 10:35:07 AM »
I've been thinking, why my university material show this reaction as:
BiI3 + KI -> K[BiI4] . The degree of Bi coordination is six. Why isn't this reaction like this: BiI3 + 3KI -> K3[BiI6] ???
Can't Bi accept more ligands than 4?

Thank you for your answers.

P.S. Sorry, I should have post this message in inorganic chemistry column.
