Test Bank Help
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:07:50 PM »
Hello, My teacher recently gave us a test ban to study for the test. I have looked over some of the questions and found them to be wrong. I was wondering if someone could look over the questions and let me know if the answers listed are correct? They are in pdf format and I have two editions that I need proofread. Thanks in advance

The pdfs are long (15 and 25 pages), I don't think you are going to find anyone to sit through and check them all.  Are you saying that some of the answers she provides are incorrect?  Copy the question on to the forum, and give us what you think the right answer is.

I guess the main ones would be:

9. Which of the following is not a Bronsted-Lowry acid?
A) H2O
B) (CH3)3N
C) NH4+
D) CH3CO2H
E) HC≡CH
Ans: E

11. Which of these is not a Lewis acid?
A) AlCl3
B) H3O+
C) FeCl3
D) SO3
E) C4H10
Ans: E

28. Which combination of reagents is the least effective in generating sodium ethoxide,
CH3CH2ONa?
A) CH3CH2OH + NaH
B) CH3CH2OH + NaNH2
C) CH3CH2OH + NaOH
D) CH3CH2OH + CH3Li
E) CH3CH2OH + HC≡CNa
Ans: C

32. Which sequence is the best one to use to prepare CH3C≡CD?
A) CH3C CH  ->NaH  ->D2O
B) CH3C CH ->NaOH ->D2O
C)CH3C ->CH
CH3ONa ->D2O
D) CH3C ->CH ->DOH
E) None of these will be successful.
Ans: A

35. Which reaction will yield CH3CH2-D?
A) CH3CH3 + D2O
B) CH3CH2Li + D2O
C) CH3CH2OLi + D2O
D) CH3CH2OH + D2O
E) More than one of these
Ans: B

I think there is only one incorrect solution corresponding to its question. That's the solution of question 9. I think trimethyl amine is the subtance that's not a Bronsted - Lowry acid.
Other questions and solutions are right, I think so.

I'd say 9 should be B and 28 should be D

28 d can form ethoxied (lithium ethoxide but not the sodium ethoxide). 28 c is sometimes used as sufficient method in industry.
