Solubility of Sulfanilamide in ethanol
« on: September 04, 2007, 12:00:25 AM »
I'm offically stumped as to what the solubility of Sulfanilamide is in ethanol at 78 degrees celsius.

I looked all over the web and only got unbackable data of solubility as 210mg/ml as the solubility.

I have to calculation for lab and find out about how much ethanol is needed to disolve the 0.3g of sulfanilamide I'm using.

Any help as to solubility?
It should be simple to find but I looked everywhere =(

I'm sure that you no longer need the answer, but I'll post this just in case someone else visits this post to find the answer.

The information you have is all you need to determine how much ethanol is needed.  You just need to do some simple dimensional analysis.

0.3 g sulfanilamide X 1000mg/1g X 1 mL/210mg = 1.43 mL 95% ethanol

Therefore you will need 1.43 mL of 95% ethanol to dissolve 0.3g sulfanilamide.
