Chemistry 2AP Questions (Thermo. and Nuclear)
« on: October 16, 2010, 07:23:05 PM »
Hello all! These are just a few questions that I am having troubles with. Thanks!

1. (This is a theory question): Assume that there is a neutralization between 1M HCl and1M NaOH. Equation: Q = C*m*(Delta T).

Part A: Explain what each variable in the equation above represents and  the units (e.g. Delta T = change in temperature of the system, Celcius).

Part B: How would you get each number?

Party C: What is the Molar Enthalpy? (Delta H/Molarity)

Part D: What happens to Q if you double the Molarities (2M instead of 1M)?

Part D2: What happens to the Molar Enthalpy if the concentrations were doubled (2M instead of 1M)?

2. Explain why the mass of He (Where 4 is the mass number and 2 is the atomic) is less than that of 2 protons, 2 neutrons, and 2 electrons.
b. Explain why Alpha Radiation penetrates a much shorter distance into a piece of material than a beta particle would.

c. Explain why the product of nuclear fission of Uranium atoms such as 90Sr and 137Ce are highly radioactive anddecay by beta emission.

d. Explain why nuclear fusion more energy than fission.

3. Write a nuclear decay of 234/94 Pu by Alpha.
b) Account why the mass of Pu in part A is a little less than the original mass

Thanks!
