trans effect

can someone help me understand the concept of trans effect? my lecture notes are quite brief on this and our lecturer told us there will definately be questions on this in our final exam.

any help, is much appreciated

i have been to wiki. My main problem is that ive always been told from my uni lecturers that wiki is never a good source to use as information there isnt always reliable.

btw sorry for the late reply, my computer died due to massive thunderstorms in the area
