Titration of Mg2+ with EDTA - choice of indicator
« on: November 19, 2010, 12:48:36 PM »
I'm having trouble with this question, dealing with the sensitivity of Eriochrome Black series indicators in titrations involving Mg2+ with EDTA.

The pH=10.0, and the log β1, log β2 and log K(Mg-Indicator) values are given.

For EB-A, log β1=13, log β2=19.2 and log k(Mg-indicator) =7.2.
For EB-B, log β1=12.5, log β2=18.7 and log k(Mg-indicator) =7.4.

The question is, which indicator is most suitable for the titration. I don't know what exactly I need to figure out (in terms of using a formula) to answer this. Please help.
