What is the pH of....
« on: December 06, 2010, 09:50:19 AM »
What is the pH if a 50mL of an aqueous solution made with 1.00g of heroine(Formula weight=269.42) The pKa=8.02?

Could someone show me how to solve this problem? I've been working practice problems for my exam and I don't know how to do this one.

Thanks!

Just treat heroin as any acid that would normally dissociate in water, and set up the equilibrium. You are (indirectly) given all the data you need.

I'm not sure on how to do that : /

I got (1.00g)/(269.42g)=.0037

Then I got
(x^2)/(.0037-x) but I'm not sure what to do after this point

What is x2/(.0037-x) equal to?

Understand the chemistry before anything else.
