« on: December 09, 2010, 09:31:33 PM »
CO = 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^6 3d^7 4s^2 / Bond Order 3 / Diamagnetic
CO^+ = 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^6 3d^7 / Bond Order 2.5 / Paramagnetic
CO^2+ = 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^6 3d^5 / Bond Order 2 / ???
NO^+ = ??? / Bond Order 3 / Diamagnetic
NO = ???????? / Bond Order 2.5 / ??

It seems that you are confused between molecular and atomic orbitals.

CO is the molecule carbon monoxide, but it looks like you did the configuration of Cobalt metal (Co).

Molecular orbitals come from the interaction of atomic orbitals, so you don't use atomic orbitals (s,p,d,f) in the electronic configuration.  Here's a hint:  You'll know you're on the right track if you start using greek letters instead.

I hope this helps get you started.
