Preparation of sodium cyanide
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:44:47 AM »
I have following equation:
CaCN2 + Na2CO3 → 2 NaCN + CaO + O2

But I dont know if its right and I want to know, what temperature I need to make this reaction run

Thanks

Not necessarily.  He could be trying to run the reaction without a solvent, under high heat.  Not sure it would work though because the carbonate is going to decompose way earlier than the cyanide salt starts to liquefy at all.

Yah....

Why not just Hydrogen cyanide with our trusty base...sodium hydroxide?

After asking that question I can see why you wouldn't want to.

As for your reaction is isn't quite feasible. As bartel said it would need to be in high heat and you should look at what such high heat will do to the compounds.
