Benzylamine Impurity
« on: January 11, 2011, 12:08:14 AM »
I am observing some non polar impurity(by TLC) in benzylamine which stored about 2 months. As my intention is not to investigate this impurity i couldn't concentrate this area!
Anyway i didn't checked for new lot.

It will be helpful if anybody could give a clue!!!
Thanks in advance!

Does it interfere with your reaction? The only real thing I can think of is perhaps some oxidised form, but these would be more polar than the parent I think.

No it seems to be that is not interfering with my reaction(it is stagnant during and after the completion of starting material).

Yes! i too guessing the same, of course after oxidation, the resultant moiety may react with benzylamine and can give amide!!

Correct me if i am wrong...
But surprisingly i couldn't see any literature supporting my words/guessing!!!!

You could possibly distill or separate with a column to increase purity, I'm guessing since you can see there are two distinct compounds using TLC that separation using a column would be possible.

is there any whitish crust around the rim of the bottle?  it can react with CO2 to form the carbamic acid.
