In a way that's nothing new - Ukraine was always exaggerating problem to get more help from abroad.

The human body is amazingly resilliant to external dangers.  If the background radiation in the area has increased, then the body will adapt to that higher background level.  I truly think we won't see the full effect of Chernobyl until the NEXT generation of children are born.  That is, the children of the children who were affected.  So I'd say that a closer look at the incident in about 20 years would be a smart thing to do.

Did anyone ever go to that webpage where a girl documented her trip through chernobyl with pictures.  It was really beautiful and creepy to go through the ghost town with abandoned homes with the kids toys still out and tanks just sitting alongside the road...
