Hi

I am trying to perform a pigment extraction following  directions from a very old textbook I was just wondering if anyone could describe how this extraction and reduction would be done (methods, glassware, materials)?  I get the gist of it but am not a chemist and want to make sure before I try. 

"Both pigments are extractable from etheral solution with soda, and both are reversibly reducible with hydrosulphite."
