Doing some reading on orbitals and quantum numbers. Just wanted to get some of the basic concepts straight.
I'm trying to visualize the orbitals.
For n = 2, do you have three orbitals ( a 1s, 2s, and 2p) where electrons can be found? I know the secondary quantum number indicates shape, so would you have the 1s, 2s, and 2p orbitals all superimposed on each other?
Then, each orbital (1s, 2s) can have a different orientation...so for n= 2, you would have a 1s, then 2s orbital, then for the 2p orbital, would you just have one 2p orbital or three (2pz, 2py and 2px?).
I'm just getting confused on how many possibilities there are for each orbital.
