Separation of urea from formic acid
« on: March 06, 2011, 11:36:27 AM »
Any idea of separating Urea from Formic acid from their mixture?

Both are water soluble. But formic acid reacts with a base.
What about, if we made the mixture to dissolve in a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate and extract only urea into any organic solvent.

But which organic solvent is to be used? Whether urea is stable under these conditions?
