Naming compound!

(1/1)

mli7:
Do I name LiO2 as lithum(IV) oxide or lithum dioxide.
Also, when do you use the prefix like mono, di, tri to name a compound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you!.

Borek:
It is peroxide, not lithium (IV) compound. Calling it dioxide you are on the safe side, although I am not sure about English systematic name in this case.

xiankai:
i recall seeing something like this named a superoxide, though.
