When to add E(cath) and E(anode) as opposed to substracting?
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:30:31 PM »
For electrochemistry, sometimes questions refer to cell potentials, and they tend to go Ecat-Eanode. But lots of the time, it will say calculate the "potential", and it will result in Ecat+Eanode. I've tried checking the concepts from the notes, but they don't seem that clear in this respect. Can someone explain when to use the two?

Thanks in advance
