Moles
« on: April 03, 2011, 05:55:25 PM »
I am new to this place and love chemistry. I understand moles a bit but I was wondering if someone could give a brief explanation that could be easily understood. I am really good with chemistry and I'm already studying college level chemistry in 8th grade ;D. Yet for some reason I just am not fully getting the explanation and use of moles :(. Can someone help? ( Don't worry, it's not school work it's just for fun and personal knowledge).

Thanks!

I was also confused by moles back in school until one day it suddenly clicked - the concept of a mole is basically no more mysterious than a dozen, if it had been explained to me like this I would have got it straight away:

There are 2 items in a pair, 12 items in a dozen, and there are 6.022 x 1023 items in a mole.

That's it, no voodoo.
