AP Chemistry - Mixing Buffers
« on: April 04, 2011, 06:07:35 PM »
In my AP Chem class we're beginning to work with buffers and how they are produced from an acid/base and its conjugate. I understand the concept and some of the calculations, but this problem only gave me Ka of acetic acid, molarity of the acid used to make the solution, and the pH of the final product. I don't know how to work backwards from this information to calculate the mass of sodium acetate needed to produce said pH. Help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

You have equation with one variable - concentration of acetate - just rearrange equation.
