GC of Codeine/Caffeine/Paracetemol
« on: May 05, 2011, 08:16:14 AM »
Hello,

Before I start, I have to admit that I'm not much of an analytical chemist (my background is molecular biology), so forgive me if I'm asking a possibly stupid question...

I've been looking for an appropriate method for the quantitive analysis of a mock drugs of abuse sample which ideally follows the sort of procedure used for analysis of heroin/morphine. The method I found that seems to be recommended uses an HP-1 capillary column with a ramped temperature programme, uses n-tetracosane as the internal standard and sample derivitized with MSTFA.

My mock mixture contains codeine/caffeine/paracetemol (Not licensed for the real stuff!) and I wondered if anyone knew of a good alternative method to the one highlighted above... Is there a method that would perhaps work using a ZB+ wax column (even better isothermally) given that I don't really care too much about resolution?

Many thanks

R

If the column is already installed, it is really easiest to just try it out.
