This is what I need help with:
Know the units of ionic compounds (metal and nonmetal) and molecular compounds (2 nonmetals).

I think I was absent when this was discussed and it is not in my book. Any help or clarification about what they're asking would help tremendously! I'm searching other websites as well but I figured this would be worth a shot.

Sorry if this is a stupid or "duh" question, and thank you in advance for any assistance!

Ask your instructor for clarification? Units for what?

Perhaps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_unit

Though as Fatcat stated, you should ask your instructor.
I'm still learning - always check my work/answer.
