Please help
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:25:06 AM »
Please can some help me with this. Kind of stuck

How Can I identify two differences in the interactions that could occur between the amino acids in Chain 2 compared with those that could occur between the amino acids in Chain 1.

Chain 1: – Asp – Gly – Ser – Cys – Val – Ala – Gly – Gly – Ser – Cys –

Chain 2: – Asp – Gly – Ser – Cys – Val – Lys – Val – Gly – Ser – Gly –

also

Cellulose and starch are both composed of hundreds of glucose monomers.

Explain why cellulose can form strong fibres but cannot be digested by humans, whereas starch cannot form fibres but can be digested by humans.

Kyle,

Have you looked at the structures of starch and cellulose?  If so what difference did you see?  I see two cysteine residues in one peptide and only one in the other peptide.  What special properties does cysteine (Cys) have in terms of charge, nucleophilicity, or ability to act as a reducing agent?  Same question for lysine.

kyle.thomas: I've moved your post to a better subforum, and I hope you get what you need.  You question is a very common one, so you can try searching on this forum for some of your terms, for example: http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=56861.0
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
