Why 6.022.. *10^23 for the mole?

Why was the value 6.022.. x 10^23 of anything set for 1 mole of that thing?
Why did they choose this number in particular? Is there any reason behind it? ???

Or, you could awnser the question:

It is the number of atoms in 12g of the C-12, I think.
