hi guys im having a little difficulty trying to understand balancing with oxidation...so heres a sample problem that i really need someone to explain to me
the equation is this:
K
2
Cr
2
O
7
+ HCl -------> KCl + CrCl
3
+ Cl
2
+ H
2
O
and then my teacher gives me this for an answer:
K
2
Cr
2
O
7
+ 6HCl + 8H
2
O -------> 2KCl + 2CrCl
3
+ 3Cl
2
+ 7H
2
O
so i just dont understand how he got there!? Please i would REALLY appreciate it if someone explains it to me becase it is really hard for me to understand.....thnx a lot in advance

Just make the number of atoms of each element on the left hand side equal the number of atoms of each element on the right hand side.
It doesn't matter what the oxidation numbers are for this question, it is just math.
