ICE table

I just have a quick question:

      How do you know in which direction the reaction is proceeding when you are doing an equation that involves the ICE table?  For example:  On the C part of ICE how can you tell whether to put -x on the reactant side or on the product side?

Reactants are consumed and products are formed.

Given that, do you think the change in concentration of the reactants is positive or negative (increases or decreases)?

Dan is correct.  Usually with G-chem undergraduate Equilibrium reactions, reactants are usually being converted to products.  That being said, you should now be able to figure out where you put the -x and the +x.  Watch your coefficients too!  Maybe it will be a -2x, +3x, etc.
