Isotopes, Elements, and Mass
« on: September 30, 2005, 01:55:40 PM »
I have three questions, well, three things I need to take notes on and study. In order to do that, I need to download a video (Cyber school) but it's taking forever so I started to look online. I just can't find these last three things though...

Describe an isotope. (I can define one but describe one? ???)
Describe the fundamental difference between elements.
Define atomic mass unit.

I finally got the video to load but I wanted to check what I got from it to see if I'm right.

Isotopes have different masses but generally the same chemical properties.

Elements all have a different atomic mass.

An atomic mass unit is 1/12 the mass of a carbon atom.

You're almost there.

1):  Isotopes have different atomic masses but similar chemical properties.

2):  Elements all have different atomic numbers.

3):  Correct!
