How do you write the formula for the strontium ion?
« on: August 14, 2011, 08:48:34 PM »
I've seen a number of ways of writing this, but the most common seems to be Sr2+. Is this correct? (As in the ionic number is superscript?)

Just web formatting probably. Some write the 2+ in non-superscript, e.g. Sr2+ . This doesn't look right to me, nonetheless some people appear adamant that this is correct. (Which rather reminds me just what an unreliable and variable source of information the internet is).

I'm assuming Sr2+ is indeed correct then?

Yes.

Definite source of the knowledge here is the IUPAC Green Book: http://www.iupac.org/publications/books/gbook/green_book_2ed.pdf. See page 44.
