Alkoxycarbonylation
« on: August 22, 2011, 03:25:48 PM »
Hi,

I am hoping to try out an alkoxycarbonylation tomorrow on a vinyl iodide using palladium acetate and sodium acetate in dry methanol.  Could anyone give me some safety advice on filling up a balloon with CO?  I only have access to a CO cylinder attached to a rig which is meters away from the nearest fume cupboard and I'm worried about setting the detectors off (sensitive to 5 ppm CO) as well as for the safety of myself and others working in the lab.

Thanks

Find a hose which is long enough to make it to the nearest hood.

Does the rig that this tank is attached to have some sort of ventilation system?
