Freelance Lab Work
« on: September 11, 2011, 07:21:58 AM »
Hello chemistry experts,

I've found a few places in the US that allow people to come in and use their equipment to conduct experiments, for example Genspace in NY - http://genspace.org/. Is anyone aware of other places with a similar setup?

The reason I ask is that I've created a website that connects scientific professionals. We've had a few chemistry jobs posted but often run up against University IP issues when recruiting students/post-grads. An example listing is here: http://zombal.com/zomb/scientific-experiment/uv-vis-spectroscopy-and-photolumensence-quantum-yield

Any advice about or leads to people able to conduct freelance lab work would be much appreciated.

is this more of an employment site rather than a hobby site you are creating

Hey there,

Yes, I guess it is. However it's freelance work that's targeted more at specialists who have a bit of spare time rather than your conventional 9-5 operation. Have I posted this in the wrong area?

Thanks

i am not sure - we have this other boards

Chemical Forums > General Forums > Chem Central - The Chemical News Source > Find a Chemical Job / Internship

or

Chemical Forums > General Forums > Free Chemistry Advertising, and other links offsite

I can move this post/thread if you want or leave you here

Ok great! I think the Chemical Forums > General Forums > Chem Central - The Chemical News Source > Find a Chemical Job / Internship might be the best place?

However, I'm really looking to get an answer about open labs rather than recruiting people.

Cheers

My first thoughts were that facilities that might let you use there equipment might be afraid of potential law suits if something unwanted should happen.

My second thought is colleges might let you do supervised independent study for pass/fail one credit course. assuming you could get a professor to support you.

Why would you not want to build your own lab on a small scale?
