Question
« on: September 25, 2011, 11:42:43 AM »
HI, I have some questions, I have found a synthesis for hydrocodone/hydromorphone.

Quote
Dihydrocodeine + HCl + H3BO3 --->Dihydromorphine. Yes, simply refluxing dihydrocodeine in hydrochloric acid with a 5% boric acid rate-enhancer results in 95% dihydromorphine in 26 hours. DHM is 17% stronger than plain morphine & has a duration of about 6 hours (instead of about 4 for plain morphine). Dihydromorphine can be oxidised to hydromorphone (and DHC to hydrocodone) in several ways. Commercially it's usually done using chromic or aluminium isopropoxide (both unpleasant). I would be prepared to bet that the nice, non-toxic Dess–-Martin periodinane oxidation would work really well

My question is what can I use to oxidize dihydrocodeine to hydrocodone? and dihydromorphine to oxidize to hydromorphone. A step by step with measurements will really appreciated. Thanks

If you are interested in general alcohol oxidation methodology then you can start a new thread. I'm afraid it is against the ruled to discuss the synthesis of this particular compound.
