« on: October 26, 2011, 08:11:59 PM »
While blowing carbon dioxide (CO2) into saturated sodium chloride (NaCl) in ammonia (NH3), why must we soak the erlen in cold water ?
And why must we use cold water or ethyl alcohol to clean NaHCO3 ? Can we use water at 25oC to clean it ?

sb plz answer me some question

at low temp ,CO2 gas is more soluble and hence it gives a high conc of CO2 gas . NaHCO3 is less soluble in cold water and at 25 deg C it will be more soluble .

Look up in your textbook or some other resource, the solubility of each reactant and product, so you can refer to your source in the answer, and come up with a conclusion in your own words, and get the most credit for the lab and the exam.  Seriously, you shouldn't have to ask twice why we use cold liquids to wash a soluble chemical.
