Ive run into a tough synthesis question, here it goes...

Starting with oil what reagents and mechanisms are required to get to 1-butyl-2-methyl-cyclopropane? Help me out! Thanks guys.

Which oil?

"Oil" in reference to petroleum chemistry, is a wide mixture of compounds whose only similarities are that they are almost all hydrocarbons and have approximately the same boiling points.

Like fledarmus: said, dropping the word 'oil' as a starting material is certainly a weird wording for an organic synthesis question.  At any rate, Wikipedia has a pretty lengthy article on internal cyclopropanations.  How you're supposed to get the appropriate starting material from petroleum is a task for you.

Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
