Bromination of E-stilbene Question...?
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:30:52 AM »
In lab, I completed the bromination of  E-stilbene using pyridinium tribromide as the source of bromine. I'm finished the lab report except for the last question, which asks what by-products could form when acetic acid is used as the solvent. I've been trying to figure this out for hours now, and I'm still totally stuck ??? Could anyone point me in the right direction? I'd reaaaally appreciate it!  :)

What's the mechanism of the bromination?
