Hello, this is my first post so please forgive any transgressions I may make.
I decided to bleach my white laundry today, and filled the bleach repository of my washing machine to about half full with Clorox Regular Bleach. Then I had the idea to mix in some Seventh Generation Chlorine-Free Bleach. This produced a chemical reaction.
I observed bubbling and a hissing sounds coming from the mixture, occuring for 5-10 seconds, and, I assume, gas being released, as the liquid level in the repository dropped after the 5-10 seconds had passed. After I noticed the level drop, I turned on the fan in the laundry room, turned on the washer, and left immediately, for fear of inhaling toxic gases.
I have four questions:
1. What, chemically was occurring when I mixed the two forms of bleach?
2. What do you predict the effects will be on my clothing? (extra-whitened, ruined, etc)
3. Was a toxic gas released?
4. Is there any reason I should not do this in the future, or not wear the clothes that I washed with this mixture?
