Finding a element

Hi

I have been searching in my books all day long to find this answer, but I can't find it. It's not realy a text book question but more sort of a ''fun'' question my science teacher gave me. So here it goes:

Element X (unknown) has two electrons in the last shield. Of all the elements, this is the element that brings most of the earths heavyness. It reacts with oxygen and makes two different types; one red and one black. What element are I'm thinking of?

And I'm thanking in advance for all the answers I may get :P

(I'm from Norway, so I'm not so good in English as you guys :) )

I thought Earth's core was mostly nickel? The core would make up most of Earth's weigt I'd imagine because it's supposedly very dense. This more of one of those critical thinking questions. I would say it was nickel.
