Stock Solution Calculation
« on: December 26, 2011, 10:27:21 PM »
I was asked to prepare the antibiotic disc myself. I am not so sure about the calculation for the antibiotic stock solution. From the website, I know that the formula is W=VxC/P; P=potency, V=volume needed, C = desired concentration.

I have four antibiotics that I need to prepare:-
1) Amoxicillin Trihydrate powder - each gram contains 500mg (dosage: 0.26g/liter drinking water)
2) Kanamycin - each gram contains 550mg (dosage: 0.05g/liter drinking water)
3) Florfenicol - 100mg (dosage: 1cc/1 gallon drinking water)
4) Oxytetracycline 25% + neomycin 25% - each 1000g contains oxytetracycline 250g & neomycin 250g (dosage: 2.2g/liter)

I have tried to calcuate for amoxicillin.
W = 500ml x 0.26ug/ml / 500ug/mg
    = 0.26mg

Is my calculation correct? Please help me with the calculation. Thank you.
