Hi, I am choosing an undergrad programme and I wanted to know which is a better choice, BSc Medicinal Chemistry or BSc Chemistry+ Statistics (Double major).

In BSc Medicinal Chemistry, the core courses would include some BioScience and MedScience.

I am really interested in drug design and discovery. Would it be too early to specialize in Medicinal chemistry??

Thanks

I think it's a bad move, as a general chemistry degree (in which you have the flexibility towards the end to specialise to some extent) leaves more doors open for you, and you might find out about other areas that could interest you more.

Probably better would be a BSc in chemistry and an MSc in med chem if that's still what interests you most after the BSc.

I absolutly agree. It's much better to go general than specific. You can certainly get into medicinal chemistry without a degree in it. Plus you may end up hating drug discovery by the time you graduate; it happens, trust me.

Also, having significant math experience will opens doors.

That extra degree in statistics is a great idea. Probability and Statistics are both so useful as chemistry majors.
