chemistry topics for presentation
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:05:39 PM »
Hello everybody,

I am new to chemistry and my instructor wants me to choose a topic to make 6 to 10 minutes presentation front of the class and I will be asked some questions in the process.
I would like you guys to help find an interesting topic including some specific details.

Thanks in advance  :)

Frankly, not with what we were told.

Is this a general chemistry class? Organic Chemistry? What?

I think so. The book I am using for the class is "An Introduction to General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry" by Timberlake

I am interested in water, but I don't know how to start.
Water fascinates by the way it reacts to temperature extremes.

By the way, my instructor told me to search for chemistry topics for college level or high school.

Would things like acid rain or converting salt water to drinking water be the kinds of things you would consider?
Do you think looking at the news might give you some ideas?
What do you know about water already?

Would reading about water on the WIKI give you ideas and then you can use Google to search for that idea. I would not trust WIKI to be totally correct but it will give you ideas and sources.

Of course, the library has lots of good resources.

Converting salt water to drinking water looks interesting to me.
I know a little about desalting water, not as a chemist so to speak.

Although I would not quote WIKI as a reference they do have some sources at the bottom and Google might work for you as well.

Well an introductory chemistry course allows you to learn how to make yourself more knowledgeable.
