Iodine Value via Titration Problems
« on: March 08, 2012, 04:03:22 PM »
I am currently trying to find the idodine value for a product via titration. When doing the first few steps: I am transferring an accurately weighed quantity of sample into a 250-ml Iodine flask. I dissolve in it, 10 ml of chloroform, add 25.0 ml of iodobromide TS, inserting the stopper in the vessel securely, and allow it to stand for 30 minutes protected from light, with occasional shaking. After the 30 minutes, add 30ml of potassium iodide TS and 100ml of water. Once I get to this step, an oily liquid forms at the bottom of the flask. It reminds me of the blob of liquid in a lava lamp. This isn't suppose to be happening as it gives the wrong results when titrating. Please *delete me*
