What should I use to adjust pH of Na2SO4 solution?
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:56:09 PM »
I've prepared a 0.5M solution of Na2SO4.

I need it to be at pH 3.0 and don't know what acid to use.

My first reaction is to use H2SO4 - but I'm reluctant because my gut tells me the SO4 ions will mess with the desired concentration of Na2SO4.

Any suggestions on what to use?

Should I move this to the Biochem forum?

Thanks

How about adding HCl.

Use H2SO4, you will need below 10-3 M, thats 200 times less than 0.5M, I doubt your 0.5M solution concentrations is that accurate.
