Degeneracy of Rotational and Vibrational Levels
« on: April 07, 2012, 02:54:30 PM »
Hi guys,

I know the degeneracy of a rotational level is given by the equation 2J+1, so if you are in the state J=2 therefore that state is 5-fold generate.

What is the equation for knowing the degeneracy of a vibrational level? If v=? how would I know what the degerenacy of that state/level be?

Thanks!

You don't really get vibrational degeneracy. There are not that many levels occupied and they are spread far apart. Although it has been shown that there is some http://www.stanford.edu/group/fayer/articles/333.pdf
