Mass spec association with HPLCs

Hi All,

I am a novice to lab instruments; however I really appreciate anyones help in understanding how the Mass spec and HPLC instruments are used together in the lab, why are they used together and when are they used seperately?

Think about difference between determination and separation. Which technique is better suited to which task?
