Li 2+ Electron config.
« on: April 15, 2012, 08:40:24 PM »
Hi

While reading in my chem book I read somewhere that said the Li 2+ electron config has 1 electron in the 2s orbital, but if the S block elements lose electrons from the highest n value orbital shouldnt it be 1s1 rather then 2s1?

I couldnt find this exception anywhere.

Li has electronic configuration 1s2 2s1. In the chemical reactions Li loss 2s1 electron only.
But during physical ionization it can loss other electrons.
