Interaction of nicotine and toluenesulfonic acid
«
on:

Greetings,
What are some possible interactions/reactions between nicotine and toluenesulfonic acid? Something happening with the sulfonate and pyrrolidine groups?
Looking for a mechanism that would explain the formation of a
chromophore
.

When you draw out the structure of nicotine, what functional groups can you identify? What
inorganic
compound does toluenesulfonic acid most resemble?

In my experience with making nicotinamide derivatives and reading about them in the literature, when one alkylates the nitrogen atom of the nicotinamide ring, the molar absorptivity increases.
