Structural Formula and central atoms of CSiSe2H2
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:52:33 PM »
Here's the Yahoo! answers topic that I have posted already. I think I got the right structural formula, but the C part is tripping me up. I also think the central atoms are Si and Se, but I'm not quite sure. I would like some confirmation and some explanation as to why C is stable (if it is) in this configuration!

Why not H2C=Si=Se or H2Si=C=Se?

Does a compound with that molecular formula exist?
My research: Google Scholar and Researchgate

Looks a tad unstable to me, the only formula I can think of is an extended sort of ketene structure; but looks very unstable to polymerisation or hydrolysis. Not sure if the carbon or the silicon should be at the end (a bit like AWK's, but aren't there 2 atoms of Se?).

The molecule is not listed on CAS so I am not sure why we are spending time on this beastie.
HSe-C≡Si-SeH looks reasonable but C≡Si bonds are as far as I'm aware unknown.  But I haven't been
following the field of SiSi multiple bonds for some time.

I did not notice the second Se atom looking at Yahoo link.
Se=C=SiH(SeH) does not contain Si-C triple bond.
